Analysis of a music video
I am analyzing the video Underdog by You me at six.
I would say the genre of music is Rock however the genre of the video is drama & romance.
The video starts off showing us the band playing and singing on the stage and then it switches to a girl and a guy kissing and another girl watching from the side and crying.
It seems that this is set out behind the stage somewhere, the band both participates and narrates.
The video has a very clear verse-chorus-verse-structure & the video is also edited to the beat helping us, the viewer, get into the song & into the music.
I think it's about someone who had new found popularity and took advantage of it.
I think they had someone good going with one girl and realised he could get any girl he wanted so he took advantage of it and messed around with other girls. Then when everyone found out and everything was ruined he realised that he was stupid and he had everything he needed in the beginning.
Hence: "it's such a shame you had to find out this way"
he only founded out that he loved her when he lost her
I also think that the song is aimed at Teenagers both male and female because it's a typical teenage story with all the drama and romance that a teen can relate to in their life.
There is also a bridge in the song that say "Cause I never take advice from my friends,
Friends, in very high places,
They're only making beds for themselves,
How very, very selfish,"
Which I think fits in really well with the video because I think that the girl crying is the girls girlfriend and she see's her boyfriend cheating on her backstage with her friend,
Hence "Friends, in very high places,
They're only making beds for themselves,"
