Andrew Goodwins theory Research

Andrew Goodwin’s Theory

Andrew’s theory is saying that often pop songs do not follow the traditional narrative flow as many others, Normality – Problem – resolution. He also states that a reason for this is because the singer is the narrator as well as character which will set a huge difference on the outcome of the songs story, it might end bad may stay bad through out the whole song or it could  be vice versa. Another point he has made is that the narrator/ character often looks directly in to the camera, the reason he says this is because he feels that the singer is trying to pull the viewer in, so going back to the narrative theory the performance will be all about the singer and based on him not the songs narrative.

Disjuncture Video – N-Dubz Best behaviour http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9n85vK5Ozns link to video

In this video N-Dubz are mostly standing in front of a plane and some of them are seen on a boat and beside a pool, watching this video and listening to the lyrics they mention the word best behaviour about 4 times. Looking at the video this does not seem like they are on there best behaviour. Dappy is grinning at the camera when there is a women swimming behind him in a tank he gives a little smile which shows he is a bit devious etc.

Illustration Video - Lilly Allen Smile

In this video Lilly is a participant and the narrator as the lyrics are illustrative and completely connected to the videos actions,

Amplification Video – Demarco Fallen soldiers

The lyrics in this song are about fallen soldiers which means friends of demarco dying, although he may be at a funeral at the end of the video at the start if the video we see him getting ready and trying to look his best at a sad event the lyrics in the song refer to a lot of things but the video does not. The video is of a man going to a funeral and chilling with his friends and most of the lyrics is referring to him growing up.
