Lip Synch (Planning)

One think I learnt is how to get the beat and the video clip in synch. I also learnt that you have to shoot a music video several time before you can edit it. The most challenging thing about this activity was getting the performer to get the words and the timing correct with the beat. I didn't learn any new tools in particular, but I did learn how to get the music and the video clips in synch. One observation I have between the thriller and the music video, I think is that the music video is easier to edit but harder to film and get the lips synch on point, because if any part of the music video's lip synch is out of place, it will ruin the whole video.

Andrew Goodwins theory Research

Andrew Goodwin’s Theory

Andrew’s theory is saying that often pop songs do not follow the traditional narrative flow as many others, Normality – Problem – resolution. He also states that a reason for this is because the singer is the narrator as well as character which will set a huge difference on the outcome of the songs story, it might end bad may stay bad through out the whole song or it could  be vice versa. Another point he has made is that the narrator/ character often looks directly in to the camera, the reason he says this is because he feels that the singer is trying to pull the viewer in, so going back to the narrative theory the performance will be all about the singer and based on him not the songs narrative.

Disjuncture Video – N-Dubz Best behaviour http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9n85vK5Ozns link to video

In this video N-Dubz are mostly standing in front of a plane and some of them are seen on a boat and beside a pool, watching this video and listening to the lyrics they mention the word best behaviour about 4 times. Looking at the video this does not seem like they are on there best behaviour. Dappy is grinning at the camera when there is a women swimming behind him in a tank he gives a little smile which shows he is a bit devious etc.

In this video Lilly is a participant and the narrator as the lyrics are illustrative and completely connected to the videos actions,

Amplification Video – Demarco Fallen soldiers

The lyrics in this song are about fallen soldiers which means friends of demarco dying, although he may be at a funeral at the end of the video at the start if the video we see him getting ready and trying to look his best at a sad event the lyrics in the song refer to a lot of things but the video does not. The video is of a man going to a funeral and chilling with his friends and most of the lyrics is referring to him growing up.

Task 1 Research

Lilly Allen Smile

Lilly Allen Smile music video

The genre of this music video is pop you can tell this from objects and places being represented in this video, for example you can tell its London as you can see London roads throughout and unless you don’t live here you wouldn’t no. Another is the café they walk in to it is a traditional café so it is more or less a traditional setting of London.

The narrative structure in Lilly Allen is quite simple it is a linear video as she starts off in a down and sad mood and then she gets the problem fixed which we can tell by the video correlating with the song, and then at the end everything is ok. Therefore, there is an equilibrium everything is ok then her boyfriend dumps her, which is a disruption, and then a equilibrium again at the end were everything is sorted out.

In this video Lilly is a participant and the narrator as the lyrics are illustrative and completely connected to the videos actions, the representation of Lilly in this video is not as much idolising her as a male gaze but as the video goes along she in fact becomes in charge.

N-Dubz Ouch

The Narrative of this song is linear because it tells us a story. The lyrics and the video links together because as they sing, it shows us what's happening.
This group has different types of genres, they are Hip Hop, R&B, Grime. When you hear the song you can automatically realise what type of genre the music is.
The male singers represent their selfs and the female singer represents herself. The male sings about his role and the female sings about her role and the males wrong actions. we observe from both genders, depends on who is singing. I think that this is for a teenage audience. This is because teenagers might be able to relate.

Analysis of Music Video -

N-Dubz (Tulisa, Dappy & Fazer) - Best Behaviour.
1. Narrative - The narrative of the video is a mix of the "verse course verse" linear and the non linear. The video is non linear as the video keeps cutting to different times and places inbetween the main jet and jeeps scene. We see the main set being the jets and jeeps location, we see Dappys house, Tulisa by the pool in an hot country and Fazer on a boat on the sea in an hot country, and each sceniere has a few scenes of a few places in the set where they are E.G. Tulisa inside the house then out by the pool. There is no disruption ot equilibrum in this video. Tulisa, Dappy and Fazer (the vocalists) are all the paeticipants, observers and narrators. The lyrics link to the narrative as they are singing about the person they love being the one for them and makes them by on their "Best Behaviour" and shows them all with the person there singing about.

2. Genre - The genre of this music video would be Grime/Rap/Hip-Hop. This is backed up by the fact the artists are young, in there early twentys, and dressed in an urban fashion and would attract young fans who are into Grime/Rap & Hip-Hop.

3. Representation - The representation in this video carries the stereotypical view of women being "sexual objects on show" as all woman apart from one of the vocalists are semi-naked in nothing but bikinis. This view is seen regually in this genre of music video. Both male artists are seen with big necklaces and jewlery - "bling", adding more effect to the genre. The femal singer is seen showing leg flesh but not semi naked like the other girls in the video, which shows shes a strong, inderpendent woman not tied down to the suppresed stereotypical view of women. In the video, her male friend is topless just wearing swimming trunks challanging the sterotypical view of women as in this case shes the one with her clothes on and hes the "object on show". The jet and jeeps also sterotype the singers as these are typical objects you would see in an Grime/Rap/Hip-Hop video.

4. Media lanuage - The video is of a normal pace as the music is not fast but not slow. Many different shots and angles have been used in the video in a seamless editing fashion. The normal paced editing creates a calm effect as its not to fast but its not to slow either so it doesnt create a sad mood in the viewer.
